Stunt Bikers.

Yet another letter to the editor.
Let us see it has better fate then last six efforts.
sir .
For the last couple of days electronic and  print media are full of the news of death of a stunt biker in police firing.Lot of heat and controversy has been generated . Even in our beloved Nagpur there were incidents of stunt bikers causing inconvenience to public near Futala Lake.
Here is a suggestion .

Concerned Authorities should earmark adequate open space . Lay down the days and the timings during which the hot blooded youngsters with two wheelers can indulge in any sort of stunt or death defying antics. After all, the need for these youngsters  to " let off steam " should be taken in to consideration. If in the process accidents take place an ambulance should be made available for which the bikers should pay the fees . If death takes place it would be between the parents of the bikers and the insurance company concerned . Civic authorities will not be dragged in to such death  or be involved and will be absolved of any responsibility . If any bikers are found to indulge in such stunts at any unauthorised places or timings etc Police will be free to take action , including opening fire , if circumstances so warrant, and will not be held responsible for any consequences.

Having Said that. One gets the impression that the media, particularly electronic media is harsh, coming down heavily and  holding police blameworthy for death of the Vinay Kumar , the stunt biker in  police firing . They do not seem to credit the explanations given by the police . The media is fond of carrying out surveys , I personally feel that if a survey was done, overwhelming majority of public will hold stunt bikers guilty for indiscipline , rowdiness , drunken driving causing public nuisance  etc etc . The same vast majority will also support the police action . The vast majority will also have hardly any sympathy for a teenager, as the the reports appearing in the same media indicate , used to drugs and  alcohol . Who clandestinely jumps out of the balcony at ungodly hours to indulge in such an unlawful activity.  If Police do not take action media blames them , if they take action then also the poor fellows carry the can . One can not have it both ways . Police deserve all the support they can get for their justifiable actions .

PM Velankar, Nagpur.

THIS ONE MADE IT  WITHOUT LAST FOUR LINES !!!!
