TRAGEDY.

I had written about a wonderful idea of an unknown bird lover of creating a bird-box by giving a rectangular cut in the side of a plastic can.

This morning, when turned on the road where this plastic can bird box, was installed I did not see it hanging in the tree. On getting closer I saw that it was lying on the ground by the roadside.  Most probably a bigger truck passing on the road had knocked it off the tree.
I picked it up to examine it.

The lid is on. The bottom is intact.
What a cosey and waterproof home.

After I had taken the photo, I installed the plastic can bird box in a safer place.

Quite saddened by this tragedy.
Must install these bird boxes where such tragic incidents are not likely to happen.

MAP GARDEN and NURSERY.

 MAP GARDEN and NURSERY.

Revisited MAP garden ( Medicinal and Air Purifier Plants) and Nursery after a long time.

See my previous post @

With the onset of monsoon, a few days back each and every plant, tree and even the weeds were lush green and in abundance.
A sight for the sore eyes.
A walk through the garden on neatly paved pathways was refreshing and invigorating
A Cactus section seems to have been newly added.

A closure look revealed that a gifted but amateur artist has been at work. Other than few cactus plants which were real, the rest are the handiwork of the said gifted artist.
What gave the whole thing away were the facade paintings of a couple of houses in one corner (see photos).

What intrigued me was why FDCM was unable to get more and a few more varities of REAL cactus plants.
Unless of course, the aim was to present what is on display 🙂

DEATH TRAP - FATAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

DEATH TRAP - FATAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

An open manhole right in the middle of the centre of the road.

A broken manhole cover, Fatal accident waiting to happen.

The one that got away.

Open Manhole in the centre of a poorly lit road.
Location : Road near Jaitala Sunday market.
Even after four days, NO cautionary boards or barricade put up

Broken Manhole cover.
Substandard quality. Totally insufficient reinforcements.
Fault Design - Covers DO NOT FIT SNUGGLY and properly.

Concerned officials MUST be held ACCOUNTABLE.
Action must be taken for GROSS NEGLIGENCE of duty.
They be tried for manslaughter causing death/ grievous injury due to negligence.
This may sound HARSH. But babudom needs to be shaken.

WHAT AN IDEA SIRJI.

WHAT  AN IDEA SIRJI.
This morning during the morning walk saw a plastic can hanging in a tree. Some bird had built a nest in that can.
A closer look revealed that the plastic can was hung on the branch with some wires. Also, an opening was cut in the side of the plastic can. The opening was sufficiently large to facilitate the passage of a large variety of small birds.

I have seen bird-boxes / nesting boxes on sale and people using the same in their houses.
To make a cutaway side plastic can and hanging it by the tree helps birds constructing their nests in the NATURAL surroundings.

A fantastically wonderful idea.
I salute the bird lover who thought of and executed this idea.

You learn something new every day.

You learn something new every day.
During our daily morning walk, we pass in front of Subash Nagar Metro Station.
We had gone for a joy ride in the metro more than a year back. We had parked our car in the parking lot at that time.
Today happened to visit the parking for the second time.
Found 12 - 15 E- auto rikshaws parked there. All of them belonging to the "Metro Feeder service".
Had no idea at all that metro also ran a feeder service with E-rickshaws.
Learnt for the first time that something like this exists.
Unfortunately, the majority of the public seems to be unaware of this service.

Global Warming. Changing Weather.

 Global Warming. Changing Weather.
Summer took summer holidays this summer.
After retirement, we settled in Nagpur. That was almost 27 years back.
As compared to all those years, this year we experienced a totally different kind of summer.
In those earlier years, the maximum temperature used to be 43 to 45 degrees C, CONTINUOUSLY for at least a week to a fortnight. Touching 46 and remaining there for a couple of days was also normal. Out of those about 27 years for 3-4 years we had also experienced 47 to 47.5.
Minimum hovered around 33 to 35 Degrees C.
There was no respite from the heat.
In that dry heat desert coolers were lifesavers.
This year.
Throughout this summer, from Mar-April till June first week when monsoon arrived, the maximum temp was 41 degrees C only and that too for ONLY ONE day for a few hours. Generally it was 37 to 39 Degrees C.
Minimum did not even touch 30.
In Nagpur
Summer took summer holidays this summer.
How was it with you all?
Don't you think it is high time we woke up?

THEN : Flowering tree in full bloom. 2 Jun.21.

NOW : The same tree, 12 Jun 21.

For my post on Flowering tree in full bloom go to link @
The way flowers bloom and are shed on this tree is truly amazing.
One day no flowers and suddenly, the next time you see it after a couple of days, all you can see are a riot of snow-white flowers. Then presto as suddenly the flowers had come they vanish. Their place is taken by new leaves.
Nature is truly wondrous.

ATM's - GOOD INITIATIVE BY BOM.

ATM's - GOOD INITIATIVE BY BOM.
We have now been in COVID lockdown for more than a year and a half. For that year and a half, we have been in strict 'house arrest'.
One totally unavoidable and necessary trip outside was to an SBI  ATM to withdraw cash. During that ATM visit, I had a harrowing experience. To read about that experience go here.
I had withdrawn Rs 20,000/- on that occasion.
The lockdown has also forced us to use online transaction for home delivery of all necessary rations and other goods.
It speaks a great deal about the effectiveness of lockdown and the online transactions that I had no need to visit ATM for the last six months. As cash was needed only to pay the vegetable vendor for fresh vegetables and fruits. And to pay for my medicines because the vendor had no online payment facility and so it was COD.
Visited a BOM ( Bank of Maharashtra ) ATM this morning.
During my last visit to an ATM, I had a harrowing experience. To read about that experience go here.
Today I was pleasantly surprised to see a notice posted on the ATM wall.

As you will realise with such information available, in case of any type of ATM malfunction, the common man does not have to go through a harrowing and stressful experience.
A commendable initiative by BOM. I strongly urge all other private as well as public sector banks to emulate the example set by BOM.
