Every day a learning day - Pretty Looking Flowers.
The other day during my morning walk saw these flowers.
Each bloom is made up of a large number of smaller, individual flowers. Each individual flower is of a different colour. The bunching of different colour flowers in a single bloom makes it a very pretty looking flower.
In my younger days saw these flowers in abundance growing along stagnant water ditches one always finds along the railway tracks.
We were told it is a dirty plant.
No one told us why.
We never asked why.
Those days children did not ask "why".
Did not know its name then. Did not know it now.
Google was not there then. Google is here now.
So google zindabad.
The name is West Indian Lantana. other names include Spanish Flag, Lava, Feston Rose plant, Red Sage, Yellow Sage, Wild Sage, Lantana, Lantana Weed.
Considered bad because it is toxic to herbivores, produces chemicals to deter other plants from growing too close to it.However, people with proper pruning, also use it as a house plant. It purifies the air in the house.
One learns something new every day.
