Last six months of our service , we were in Hq Training Command , Bangalore . As we were told in Aug - Sept itself that we would retire on 31 December 1999 , we decided to visit tourist spots in & around Mysore . This we did from 11 September to 13/14 September 1999.
As Vrunda Naik , Priti's niece was also around we took her with us when we went to Mysore . Stayed with Pradip and Anju Shetty at their farm house . Pradip Shetty's Farm House position as plotted here is very very rough approximation as , after all these years it can not be plotted from memory and google search of the address as given in his visiting card is not giving any position .
I dont recollect if the exact acreage of his farm but he had about 400 odd coconut trees. There were few plots where he planted rare grasses like Cetrinol, the oil extracts of which are used in perfumes and scented soaps etc . He had a proper distillery where he boiled all the grasses and extracted the oils . He had no problem finding buyers for the oils as he always had orders waiting to be filled !For fuel in the boiler he used coconut husk and other farm wastes .And all of it was "organic" . No fertilisers or insecticides were used on the farm . All that way back in 1999 when "organic" word had not become as fashionable as it is today . It was all very smooth operation .
The house it self was beautiful . Lot of timber used in the house was brought by him from his ansectral home in Mangalore . The flooring had no modern tiles but was made following old traditional ways . The house plan was typical traditional . The living rooms , kitchen etc were built around a open square shaped central courtyard . The décor was all ethnic and good . It was all very beautiful . Pradip and Anuj were perfect hosts .We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and had a wonderful stay .
Here is the map of our trip .
