News item in Hitavada dated 10 Aug 10, about corruption in CWG .
"Corrupt will be pursued till the ' end of the Earth' : Govt.
Earth is round , it is a sphere , there is no end to it .
No wonder the corrupt, the real big fish , are never caught or punished by the Government of India .

Sir .
In a recent interview our Foreign Secretary has said. "intelligently transacted dialogue enables both the interlocutors to palce their issues which leads to greater responsiveness and sensitivity to the issue ." And again , "That is exactly the context I referred to when I spoke of the complexity in the relationship. And that is what dialogue , intelligently transacted dialogue, enables you to do when you seek more responsiveness from the other side about your concerns, this is exactly so that we are able to place these issues in context and to seek other side's focus on this issue and greater responsiveness and sensitivity to these issues" . There was lot more in similar vein .
I consider myself sufficiently educated person , able to read write and understand English language , However from what our learned Foreign Secretary has said , I could make out that she has used some bombastic and big words , strung them togatehr in sentences of complex construction , but what they actually mean or what is meant to be conveyed , I have no clue at all !!!
Calling a "spade " a "spade " though absolutely desirable, may not necessarily be advisable in diplomatic dialogues but let us at least speak in a language which conveys what we want to convey !!
No wonder India's standing is going down the drain in International community .

Sir ,
There was a news item that some outraged experts and rightist activists as will as Mr E N Rammohan former chief of BSF have strongly advocated use of Use of non lethal techniques to control J & K protesters .

If the so called experts have become "outraged " I would say they are no experts at all and they have not analysed the developments in J & K in correct perspective.
Rightists and the so called intellectuals , most of the times , unfortunately , are backing the wrong cause . And so it is in this instance as well .
However when former chief of BSF with his experience also says that same thing I am really surprised and must say that even he has mis read the situation . It must be accepted that things today are totally different from what they were in 1990s . That was the time situation in J & K was changing for the better and returning towards normalcy .

Today situation is radically different . If I recollect correctly , the present unrest was trigerred when bodies of two girls were found and the security forces were blamed for the rape & murder . Inquiry is still on but the anti national elements used it as a handle to foment trouble . A very effective pattern to provoke the forces was evolved and used time and again . At least on TWO occasions violence was instigated after youths were drowned while running away from the security forces . Then again the death of another girl was used to create unrest . In these and some other instances , where was the use of lethal methods for escalation of trouble . Review of these developments clearly indicates that the anti national elements were determined and hell bent to foment unrest , violence and disruption of normal life in J & K . They would have made sure of that even if use of non lethal techniques were adopted for trying the crowd control..

Trouble makers must be made to realise that when the C M says that in case violation of curfew orders " the results will be serious and tragic " the Govt maens it .So I feel that instead of pussy footing around and adopting soft options every means including the lethal techniques , after due warnings , must be enforced strictly .

Another Letter to Editor .

Sir .
Kashmir has always been in the news for the violent agitations being sponsored by self-serving and corrupt politicians. This has been particularly true for the last fortnight or so due to almost mutinous situation prevailing there which has been the cause of gravest concern to every citizen of India .
There are certain aspects of the situation which I do not understand and certain basic doubts which I would very much like to share with the enlightened readers of The Hitavada.
Modus-operandi of the agitators has been following a set pattern of such heavy stone pelting that security forces are forced to retaliate which unfortunately causes death of some trouble seeking / agitating teenager .Mind you it is always a teenager in the age group of 17 to 19 or so to die , never younger or elder . Can any one explain why is it so ? Why the leaders fomenting such agitations are never ever the one to get killed ?
Every death be it due to bullet injury , drowning , under suspicious circumstances or even missing person is blamed on the security forces and and this is being used to organise even bigger and more violent agitation .Even when this modus-operandi is well established and well known to the whole of India and the National leadership how is it that even with all the resources and every mean available to them the political leadership has not been able to break this viscous chain of violence.
Another doubt .
Speeches likely to raise communal violence , likely to hurt the sentiments of certain communities are offences in our laws . I believe treason is also an offence under these laws . Politicians in Kashmir have for the last many years openly giving speeches which have been refusing the sovereignty of Indian nation , refusing to accept that Kashmir is an integral part of India , advocating separation from Indian state . So much so that this motley crowd of such politicians are being called "the separatist" . Even the National leadership has been guilty of calling them "the separatist" What I do not understand is , that rather then giving them this dubious legitimacy by recognizing them as such , why they are not being charged and tried for the offence of treason . Every one knows they are grave threat to the nation . The people perceived to cause such a threat were deported to Kalapani , Andaman Islands by the Britishers . Why such people are not being sent to kalapani and kept incommunicado where they can not foment further trouble is beyond my understanding . Even the trials for treason for such people must be followed vigorously and taken to their logical conclusion .
For various reasons Presidents rule is imposed in the states . Opposition parties agitate for imposition of Presidents rule in the states being governed by the ruling party for any major or minor problem . Ruling parties impose Presidents rule in states being run by opposition parties .I am wondering that even when Kashmir is literally burning and the Government in power totally powerless to restore law and order why neither the central government nor the opposition has spoken of imposing Presidents rule in Kashmir , unless of course it can not be done due to Article 370 ?

yours sincerly
